Session Title: Lead with Language: Putting Language Skills to Work

Description:

Whether students have developed their language abilities at home, abroad, or in the classroom, it’s important they learn how to leverage their language skills to maximize potential employment opportunities post-graduation. Learn about how the UW-Madison Language Institute and African Cultural Studies Department designed a career course tailored to language students and how you can support your students in developing an understanding of transferable skills unique to language learners and articulating them for use in professional contexts.

About the Discussants:

Kaitlin supports the Rising Phoenix Early College High School Program. Rising Phoenix provides high school students access to college coursework, student success coaching and the opportunity to earn a high school diploma and an Associate of Arts and Sciences degree while still in high school. Kaitlin brings experience in community outreach, program development and advising within the UW System in addition to K-12 instruction and coaching, in Spanish and English.

Toni is an undergraduate advisor and graduate coordinator for both ACS and CANES. As such, she works with students exploring the literature and culture of Africa and the diaspora, the ancient world, and the languages related to both.
