Title: Elements of Engaging Curriculum
Description: In this presentation, Carol Wilson-Duffy and Shannon Quinn will present the checklist that they have used to help evaluate curriculum in their course "Creating Engaging Materials," a course which is focused on helping experienced instructors improve their course materials from the point of view of engagement. Participants will be invited to contribute ideas about what makes the language curriculum engaging.
About the Discussant: Shannon Donnally Quinn is an Assistant Professor of Russian and Technology Specialist. She received her Ph.D at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her ongoing teaching and research interests include instructional technology in language teaching, blended learning, and curricular design, and she completed a second Master’s degree in instructional design in 2015. She serves in the capacity of webinar coordinator of the International Association for Language Learning Technology and as the Editor-in-Chief of the The FLTMAG. Carol Wilson-Duffy has a B.A. in Linguistics and an M.A. in TESOL from Michigan State University. Besides teaching ESL, Carol has worked developing the ELC’s external special programs for 10 years. Carol has more than 20 years of educational technology training experience in the U.S. and Korea, including ESL CALL teaching methods by distance to remote areas in Micronesia. She was the web designer/editor for the journal, Language Learning & Technology, Past President of Michigan’s Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages organization (MITESOL), and has served on TESOL’s Technology Advisory Board.
