Connections Beyond the Classroom: Meaningful Projects for Remote Language Courses

Description: 

In this presentation, the speaker will discuss two examples of course projects with real-world application that can be implemented in the remote language classroom. The centering of these projects on the goal of meaningful connection with the world beyond the classroom can increase student motivation, students' sense of purpose, and by extension their well-being as learners.

About the Discussant: Katrien Vanpee is the Arabic Program Director at the University of Minnesota, where she teaches Arabic language (Modern Standard and Gulf Colloquial), literature, and culture courses. Her interests include foreign language pedagogy, language program direction and curriculum design, the incorporation of social justice pedagogy in the FL classroom, modern Arabic poetry, and the cultural heritage of the Arabian Peninsula.
